My 9am class got canceled this morning so I was happy I got to sleep in for once (I'm really not a morning person). When my radio alarm woke me up they were talking about issuing a storm warning for Auckland - it sounded really bad, with "hundreds of lightning strikes" to hit in the next hour etc... and then... nothing happened. It was cold and windy with rain, but that's nothing new here lol.  I was a little disappointed to be honest XD.

Anyway, remember that mastermind game I had to make for computer science? I got full marks for it! I really like the class so far, hopefully I'll stick with it later on.

So I've been watching season 5 of Top Chef and I've noticed a few lookalikes... (which no one agrees with me about - oh god I'm turning into my mom, she'll see someone in an ad and be like "aren't they in that tv show?" when they look nothing alike XD)

Jeff and Eric Ripert )

Oh and then there's Marcel from season 3 (this is his mugshot apparently)

... I think he looks like this guy:

Haha I'm the only one sees it apparently, I mentioned it to my Twilight-fan friend (she's only seen the movie... and then proceeded to buy the complete box set of books from Amazon. DX) and she strongly disagreed XD.

There's nothing else to report here, so all the news outlets are blowing it way out of proportion with misleading headlines like ''SWINE FLU CONFIRMED IN NEW ZEALAND'' (it hasn't been! Okay now it has been, but they were reporting it four days ago!) and ''STUDENTS AT CENTRE OF WORLD-WIDE HEALTH SCARE'' I'm looking at you, TV3. I love today's xkcd though.

The last week has been so stressful, with two midterm tests and three assignments due. I think they all went okay though, so I can breathe for a bit before my microbiology test on Thursday... DX

I got a magnetic poetry set! This cat food company was giving them away and I've always wanted one. Now I can create more masterpieces like this:

I think I might make a photo post soon... I have been keeping up with Project 365 you know, they've just become increasingly dull since uni started. I'll pick out the good ones haha, like this, which was on the back of the school magazine this week:

I thought it was a joke at first, but nope, it's real!

I got a nice surprise when I checked my Flickr today...

I just got tickets to see Dralion by Cirque du Soleil in July!!

It's my dad's 50th birthday tomorrow, so they'll be my gift. I think he'll like them.
(And they can be my birthday present to myself, since that's in July too. XD)

Okay, not letting myself spend money for a while now... BUT IT'S WORTH IT.

Friday 6th of February, 2009

In celebration of the Chinese New Year, there is an annual lantern festival in Auckland. I ended up going twice this year, once on Friday with my family (we didn't stay for very long because of all the "Can we go now?"s XD.) , and again on Sunday with some friends. (Who were in fact also there on Friday, but none of us knew XD.)

FRIDAY NIGHT

We arrived at Albert Park (which happens to be across the road from my university) around 8pm, just in time to see the (new-ish) prime minister and his entourage go by. The crowd just started following them after that.

I'm so behind with Project 365, I'll try to post the rest of the photos from January tomorrow. (Also, it's crazy that we're already 1/12th of the way through 2009, I go back to school in a month :( Summer goes by too quickly...)

Tomorrow I have jury duty! I guess I'm lucky (or unlucky) because I've only been eligible for about a year, my dad has been here for twenty years and only had to do it last year XD. I'm actually sort of looking forward to it, I think it'll be an interesting experience... Oh and speaking of luck, some new bus routes that'll make it easier for me to get to the court just came into effect today :D

I'll leave you with another Simpsons drawing (they're kind of invading my desk - and yes, I always hold pens with a weird grip XD)

ETA: OMG WTF, I had no idea Twilight had such an effect on some people.

What I've been doing today...
[info]applegreenzest
Having a slightly unhealthy love of The Simpsons, I recommended this book to the library (written by the animators themselves!) for purchase a few months ago. Well they bought it, and I finally picked it up the other day.

Oh, I'm going to have fun with this.

Poladroid finally released a version for Windows! It's a cute program that makes rather realistic looking polaroids out of your digital photos. The best part is watching them "develop".

Everyone seems to be doing this lately :D Tagged by [info]xbluedawn

1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this everyday for a week without fail.
3. Tag 8 of your friends to do the same.

DAY 1 (December 15th): A book I ordered on Amazon arrived today! It made me extra happy because the estimated delivery date was January 5th, 2009 haha.

And here's something that will make everyone happy:

Also, this is the cutest Overheard ever:

Stand Clear Of the Closing Gryffindors, Please.
Conductor: Hello, and welcome to the Hogwarts Express. This is platform 9 3/4, and we will be leaving shortly for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Preteen holding Harry Potter book, to suit holding Harry Potter book: Oh my god! I knew they would come for me!
Suit holding Harry Potter book, to himself: I did too.

Just a short entry so you know I'm not dead :)
I'm having my first driving lesson next Saturday! I've had my learner's license since I was 15 but I never went further than that >_< . With the dropping price of petrol, it would actually be cheaper for me to drive to school than take the bus, if it wasn't for the horrendously expensive parking in the city.

Every once in a while I have a crisis of  "omg what am I going to do when I graduate, what if I can't get a job etc..." Since I have to start enrolling in classes for next year soon, this is one of those times XD. I'm thinking of changing my major to biology, but everything's still in the open for now.

Who has already read The Tales of Beedle the Bard? I was quite surprised at how small it was, but I guess that's just because I'm used to huge books from J. K. Rowling XD. I've only read one story so far because I don't want to finish it all at once, and it was very sweet, I love Dumbledore's accompanying notes! haha.

Since the arrival of some rellies two weeks ago, I've been revisiting many tourist spots around Auckland... so hopefully I'll have a photo post soon :)

I think I have a wisdom tooth that's about to surface any day now. It's a bit annoying but It seems to be coming in straight, so I won't complain too much. Maybe I'll finally have some wisdom! lol.

I just finished reading Deception Point by Dan Brown today; it was pretty good, except that all his books are a little too similar... like they're not as impressive if you've read more than one. But yes, a fairly good read nonetheless :)

My mum's parents and sister are flying in Wednesday morning (they're staying for the summer), I've only spent about a month with them in the last sixteen years, so I hope I get along with them XD. My parents have been in a cleaning frenzy for the last week or so, because you know, god forbid they see how messy our usually is XD.

Ooh it's only nine days until Beedle the Bard comes out - granted, it's not that exciting, but still, it's Harry Potter related and tbh, I'll probably buy anything that J.K. Rowling writes XD.

It feels odd having nothing to do now that school is done until March (8D). I'm planning to make muffins tomorrow - haven't baked anything for a looong time so hopefully it goes well XD (Side note: this is an excellent cooking blog.) Oh and I'm finally going to watch Batman Begins, I went into The Dark Knight knowing nothing about Batman, so yeah....

PalinAsPresident updated their site today! (If you haven't been there before, I recommend you play around with the original site first - and turn on your speakers.)

Yesterday was amazing. I woke up early because I was nervous and couldn't wait for the results to start coming in XD. I was at home by myself for most of the day, but it was still awesome and I was very grateful that I had no school or exams. When CNN called it for Obama, I started cheering and had to yell at my mum to come watch, because we were, as the NZ reporter wouldn't stop repeating, watching history in the making. It was corny, but I loved it XD.

So as I now turn my thoughts to the upcoming New Zealand election, I hope that come Saturday night, I too can say that I am proud of my country.

I had my third physics exam this morning, and I think it went okay. (Can't quite say the same for the first two though.) My last one is a week from now, so I'm planning to relax and watch the election coverage tomorrow - although that might not be very relaxing, elections make me nervous :\ I still can't wait though! :)

I had my second physics test last night. I think it went much better than the first one, but I always end up struggling for time... I'll seriously be happy even if I just pass this paper (I didn't take physics in high school, okay! XD).

My last international business lecture was today, I'm really going to miss that class... our lecturer was so sarcastic and funny (although I was one of the few that laughed at his jokes, lol). Like today, when he was talking what to write in the exam if you don't know an answer, he promised that he would give us one mark for writing about our perfect man (boys and girls) XD.

Final exams are looming, how did it get to be the end of the year already?! I've always been part of the "cram-in-everything-as-late-as-possible" school of thought, and while I've made a futile effort to start studying earlier, it's like I don't know how to function any other way :S What do you guys do to motivate yourselves?

Sorry for the lack of entries/comments lately, I've been sick and on my mid-semester break (I don't write much during holidays because nothing happens! lol). School started again today and I'll be verrry busy this week. Please know I'm still reading all your entries! :)

Much love friends.

I just dropped my iPod on a tiled floor and it CRACKED OPEN. (Okay well it didn't exactly crack, but the white and silver halves split apart on one side.) I had a brief heart-stopping moment when I thought that I had finally broken it after many knocks and drops - but I just pressed it back together and it clicked itself back in place and hey presto! It switched itself back on, good as new. Crisis averted.

My sleep pattern is so screwed up, I've been staying up until 3am and sleeping until 12... (no morning labs this week, so I don't leave until noon) I actually thought it was Friday today, lol. The end of this week really can't come soon enough.

I had my physics test tonight (well, technically last night...), it's probably going to be a borderline pass or fail, but it was only worth 7.5%, so I could get a zero and still be okay with the rest of the paper.... Now I have a biochemistry test tonight, and luckily I have no classes tomorrow besides the test, because I need allll the cramming time I can get, haha (medicalmnemonics.com is a freaking lifesaver, that's all I gotta say.)

Well, it's 2:31am and I'm off to get some sleep... goodnight :)

Late entry
[info]applegreenzest
This is an entry I planned to post two weeks ago, but never did... so here you go:

The Dark Knight was AMAZING, I highly recommend that you see it at IMAX if you can! Maybe it's just because I've only been there once before (and that was for a 3D movie so I didn't really get the full effect of the giant screen), but the action sequences shot in IMAX format were quite stunning. My only complaint was that they couldn't film the whole thing like that :P (Apparently the director said that he wished they could have, but I guess the special film and cameras are too expensive or something?) BTW it's a sign of a good movie when I don't try to check the time while it's on XD. I want to go see it again now...

After sending my first Postcrossing card about two weeks ago, I suddenly received three of them in two days - One from Oldham in England (with a James Bond stamp!), one from a Ukrainian girl who's a medical student in Paris (which sounds such an awesome life...), and one from Finland, from the same person I had sent my first card to! (Not a reply lol, the system randomly picked my address for her.) What are the odds of that happening? So yeah, that was super cool :D

If you haven't watched the Half-blood Prince trailer yet, go watch it now and then watch this reaction video afterwards. (It's by the guys from Mugglecast, they've been anticipating the trailer for months - hence their ....excitement XD. Oh and the trailer is supposed to be attached with The Mummy, which is why they talk about it at the end. It's pretty silly, but it made me lol.

I'm back! Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been busy with school and avoiding spoilers for Breaking Dawn (yeah, yeah, I know the half of you that hate Twilight are probably appalled right now, but as long as you don't hate me for reading them, I'm cool with it XD), which I only just finished last night.... so I'm catching up on friends page right now.

What am I going to read now?? Haha just kidding, I have lots of books on my to-read list... No more series though, anyone have any recommendations? I need a new fandom to obsess over. XD.

Possible spoilers in comments, click at your own risk, etc. etc.

The UMAT was today, I think it went alright :) I was a bit disappointed at how badly organized it was though. >_< Like there was all this confusion over initials on the scantron and other stuff I won't bore you with, haha.

Anyway, I can't for the weekend because....

I'm going to see The Dark Knight at IMAX!! =DD I barely know anything about Batman, but omg all the hype is making me so excited! Also I haven't been to IMAX since I was about 11, so that's cool too. The one here closed down for a couple of years, but it opened again in 2006 apparently, I never knew about it until now XD. My friend and I brought tickets online too, so we could choose good seats =D

Oh, and here's your dose of spam for today:
